We are perpetually looking for shortcuts to a healthy body, a stress-free
mind and an enviable physique. No wonder we continuously give in to
propaganda and dogmas without putting much thought into their
veracity. Green Tea like Oats, Olive Oil, and Quinoa came as a new ray of hope for us and we started having innumerable cups of it without even thinking that this healthy-looking green beverage may also be carrying with it a baggage of side effects.
Although we must admit that most of the research lauding the health
benefits of it are actually true and it is indeed rich in anti-oxidants and
hence has shown potential to fight cancer and Alzheimer's, but here are
some side-effects you must not ignore.

  1. Can cause indigestion:

Having green tea on an empty stomach can cause stomach acid which
may upset your stomach and if it increases further can cause stomach
ache, nausea, or constipation.

2. Can cause high blood pressure:

Green tea also contains caffeine, a single 8-ounce serving contains 35
milligrams of caffeine. Taking in a large quantity may cause high
blood pressure and later it may result in diabetes.

3. Can make your body iron deficient:

Apart from caffeine green tea contain catechins and polyphenols that
block iron absorption in the body. Consuming too much green tea,
particularly in between meals can make you iron deficient.

4. Can cause insomnia:

Another side effect of green tea is the problem with sleep. Caffeine in
green tea stimulates the nervous system and also blocks the sleep
inducing chemicals in the brain, thereby enhancing adrenaline secretion
and preventing sleep.

5. Blood thinner:

Those taking blood thinners (anticoagulant drugs) such as
Coumadin/warfarin should drink green tea with caution due to
its vitamin K content. It’s also recommended to avoid green tea
and aspirin, because they both reduce the clotting effectiveness of
platelets.

Taking green tea more than 2–3 cups a day is not at all good for your
body. They say excess of anything is bad. People thought that it reduces
their weight that’s why they start taking it 7–8 times a day which leads to them some more diseases like blood pressure, diabetes, insomnia, headaches,
anxiety, and further many more. Still, we can’t deny the fact it is loaded with a bunch of good health benefits but these benefits can only be able to attain by one when one drinks it in the right way.
