I think every individual in their entire life must have heard this old quotation “Practice makes a man perfect” and hustle to practice but still struggles to master that particular thing because of the conceptual problem. People need to understand if they need to master anything they have to attain self-mastery first. So, today I am not going to explain the art of practice, its benefits, and how to achieve it but I a going to make you familiar with the art of deliberate practice which helps individuals in self-mastery.

You might be thinking what’s the difference between practice and deliberate practice but let me tell you, deliberate practice is a very different concept. In deliberate practice, you do not practice work but mindfully and consciously engage your mind in a particular desired task for a definite time. So, that you can achieve the fullest potential of your self which ignites your true self.

In India, the Gurukul education system was prevalent in the Vedic era. Whose origin dates was around 5000 BC in the Indian subcontinent. That was a unique residential education system. Where students used to follow a rigid schedule of education practice. That system was so effective and popular that people from other nations such as Europe, the Middle East, and Portugal came to India to get a quality education. And that’s where you will find this kind of deliberate practice in the education teaching system. Not just in the Indian gurukul system, this was also very popular amongst Buddhist monks, Shaolin monks, and several other martial arts students. Today so many coaches and teachers teach these precious practices to their students, be it sports players, monks, music students, etc.

So, you must be thinking about How someone can adapt The art of deliberate practice in their life to attain self-mastery. Here, I am going to tell you 3 easy steps which can help an individual to practice mastery in their work.

1. PLAN: Everything starts with planning, when you are clear with your goal and define it then and only you can able to achieve it. It is also very important to define what you should not do in the first place because this will give more clarity in your work, which brings more focus. Like for example if you want to lose weight then you should plan your diet and then clearly list down the strict no-no in your diet.

2. EXECUTION: Execution defines your chances of success in your goal. The more efficient and effortless the execution will be that will ensure your success in your goal. Most of the brilliant plan fails in the initial stage of the execution because people give up their zeal due to difficulties. No matter what you do, anything which is new will going to bring difficulties. That time period can be successfully handled by choosing the path of continuity. Say for another example if you want to wake up early in the morning, or want to learn animation, or want to master public speaking the initial days will be the most difficult in your journey but you will also agree those days can be conquered by giving a continuous hard work without putting second thoughts to it.

3. EVALUATION: This last step is most underrated but this is the most critical part because a regular check on your step brings more effectiveness to your work. You will also agree that in every work variables that are hard to predict, have a very strong impact on your work. To check those things and keep on improving your plans and efforts makes you master. I can surely assure you if you follow these steps then you can learn anything in the world.

After describing the steps, it’s time to mention tricks that should be kept in mind while adapting these steps. I think these points make deliberate practice different and effective from others.

1. Go slow, yes going slow, or taking one step at a point makes your efforts more strategic and more effective because slow efforts
concentrate your focus which helps in creating muscle memory.

2. Habits are everything. I believe we should always invest our time efficiently. So, always incorporate practices in your life habit like an investment so that you can enjoy the returns.

3. Practicing the one work at one particular time creates magic because by practicing this process not just your body but also your mind and energy are ready for the performance task. Having a fixed time for work brings a lot of change in the memory and its impact on you.

4. Always increase the intensity of work in ascending order. Start with less time spending on practicing and slowly increase the time, which will help you to master your work.

5. Keep yourself less distracted. People may completely cut themself from distracting things like most important cell phones while practicing, which increases concentration.

I have tried my level best to describe a very clear, crisp, and practical process, which will help you to learn almost everything in the world. And I also believe that after reading this you will understand the difference between these two sayings “Practice makes a man perfect” and “A perfect practice makes a perfect man”.
